Where – When – Why ?

Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries I have had the chance to visit.

Between lakes and mountains, we take full eyes!

Switzerland / Capital: Bern / Languages: German, Swiss German, French, Italian / French: CHF

Switzerland is divided into different regions: Bernese Oberland, Ticino, Lake Geneva Region.

I recommend the website www.myswitzerland.com which is really well done and lists all that it is possible to do in Switzerland according to the seasons.

It was a while that I wanted to hike the 5 lakes in Pizol, well it’s done!

This hike is in Graubünden, canton that I never had a chance to visit earlier.

Transports

There are two possibilities to do it:

– either you go to Wangs: you take the cable car for an hour to the Pizolhütte

– Or you go to Bad Ragaz with a stop at Laufböden.

It is a two-hour drive from Basel. I chose the first solution.

Activities

In winter

: skiing etc … but not my thing.

In summer

: a lot of hikes, including this one. It lasts an average of 4 hours and is not very simple. It begins with a great climb for a good hour that will take you to a beautiful blue lake surrounded by mountains. The path goes up and down; some climbs require a good physical condition and take his time. The lakes have beautiful colors and the surrounding landscapes are breathtaking.

Prices

Good news, parking is free in the summer! The cable car costs 44 CHF roundtrip (summer price 2018). They make discounts with the half-fare card: 22 CHF. There are still two hours of cable car so I find the price not that expensive.

Housing

The day before the hike I stayed at the Hotel Gasthaus Linde Vilter in Vilters (Lindenstrasse 2).

It is a 5-minute drive from the Wangs Cable Car and a 20-minute walk.

Very good address: the staff welcomes you with a big smile and they speak French more! The room is super clean and spacious. I got a bathroom bigger than my apartment! (How to speak for sure?). They are open until around midnight and are flexible for breakfast. I paid the room (booking two days before) 78 euros per night with breakfast (one of the cheapest in the area when I did my research and the breakfast is top!). There are accommodations (with bars and restaurants) on the mountain but in all honesty you better stay down and take the cable car early in the morning unless you want to walk

Food

Il y a de quoi faire dans les environs. Mon hôtel propose de la cuisine simple mais efficace. Ils ont quelques plats du jours, qui satisferont tous les gourmands.
