Tubuai (Îles Australes)

By September 9, 2019 No Comments

Tubuai is an island about 26km in circumference in the Austral Islands.

We stayed there only two days in September 2019, Humpback whale season! Unfortunately he made a rotten roti so we made board games …

Rent a car or hitch a ride if you do not like walking.

There are some pensions on the island.

Camping and sleeping with the locals?

Well, unlike the other islands here it’s more complicated because people are more reserved and there are too many expatriates. Try it anyway!

There is a mini market in the main village. It is big enough and there is more choice than on the other islands.

Unfortunately there was a storm during our stay so we could not do much.

That said, we did an excursion to see the whales and it is possible to get in the water! Contact Antoine on his website ( It also offers diving trips.

The pensions offer outings on the motus with lunch for about 3500 xpf.

Il y a une randonnée à faire sur le sommet de l’île. Renseignez-Vous sur place. Elle n’est pas très longue, 3h aller-retour.
